Balance in Music, Business and Life…

Balance and Harmony

As we go through life, circumstances come at us from all directions and from many different sources.  The development of our lives comes from not what happens to us, but what we do as a result of what happens to us.

Vernon Law once said, “Experience is a hard teacher because she gives the test first, the lesson afterward”.  This has held true throughout time and will continue for thousands of years in the future.  I believe our experiences create who we are, and our reactions create the harmony and balance in our lives… or the lack thereof in varying degrees.  The balance and harmony in mind, body, personal life and business life can be a natural evolution or a rude awakening depending upon the person and the current stage of their life.

Wikipedia defines balance: “In biomechanics, balance is an ability to maintain the center of gravity of a body within the base of support with minimal postural sway. Keeping balance requires integration of inputs from multiple senses with the motor system responsible for muscle actions. The senses must detect the change of the body position with respect to the base (whether the body moves or the base moves). The limit of stability of an individual standing quietly upright is defined as the amount of postural sway at which the balance is lost and the corrective actions are required. The limit of stability may be described by an irregular cone above the support base.”

In my humble opinion… through music (Barbershop Harmony) which requires harmony and balance, people can build a better base from which to deal with life’s ups and downs while evolving themselves as a person all the while.  I have certainly found this to be the case in my life.

I hope this has shed some light on the perspective of balance and harmony for you, thanks for reading.

Hi Jerry .. I’d love to be musical .. I love music .. but it’s not one of my talents! I agree with you though .. actively being a part of something else – improves our outlook on life .. we can get out & think of others (not ourselves) .. essential to self development.

    Thanks
