Barbershop is alive and well in San Diego California – Part 2

As previously posted, my wife and I attended the first night of the festival celebrating the Holiday Season  called “December Nights”, on Friday Dec 5 at Balboa Park in San Diego California , with food and craft booths set up within the many areas and buildings of Balboa Park.  Many different music styles were also being highlighted, both on the main pavilion stage and various locations around the park.

One of the featured groups was the San Diego Chapter of Sweet Adelines International (SAI), directed by Kim Hulbert. Kim also directs the Pacific Coast Harmony chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS), who also performed following the performance of the Sweet Adelines, and then the combined choruses sang.

The Sweet Adelines had just returned from the International Competition in Hawaii where they placed 7th in the world. Out of the hundreds of choruses from around the world competing this was quite an accomplishment.  The Sweet Adelines also had a booth with hot dogs, nachos and various drinks, but the featured item again this year for them were their famous “baked potatoes” topped with just about anything you can imagine.

It was a great night of barbershop music, harmony, good food and good times for everyone.

Stay “tuned”

Hey, I just had to jump on this, too. It was great fun to be there — a big event and a successful fundraiser for the San Diego Chorus. It would be worth a look-see for anyone visiting Southern California next December.
